We console ourselves that it is not just quality that determines the daily choice made by the editor. Considerations such as balancing views from around the region, mixing landscapes and seascapes, and - of course - whether there are five or five hundred images arriving at the picture desk that day! There is a little luck attached to things, but you have a better chance of success than you have with the lottery - so have a go!
